Loan Periods:

• Kindergarten - 2 books for 1 week (check out begins in October)
• 1^st Grade - 2 books for 1 week
• 2^nd Grade - 2 books for 1 week
• 3^rd Grade - 3 books for 2 weeks
• 4^th Grade - 4 books for 2 weeks
• 5^th Grade - 5 books for 2 weeks

Books should be returned before or on the student's assigned library day (see library schedule tab). Please reinforce the importance of responsible book return. 

If a student needs more time to finish reading a book, he/she may ask to renew the book. 

Book Fines:

Students are not fined for late books, but they are responsible for lost or damaged library books. Students will be fined the replacement cost if a book is lost or damaged.

K-5 Research and Homework Help
Information on how to cite resources, links to research databases, library catalogs, and lists of good books to read.

Research Databases
District provided databases appropriate for K-5. Contact your child's classroom teacher for database username and password information to gain access from home. While at school using a computer connected to our network, your child has automatic access. 

Battle of the Books is an optional reading challenge open to 4th and 5th graders. Students are responsible for forming teams, reading the books, and participating in the "Book Battles." Team registration will take place in the fall and teams may have between 2-4 members. There are 12 books each team needs to read and team members may choose to divide the book titles amongst each other.

The teams "battle" by answering questions about the 12 books. All questions require the title of a book as the answer. Teams are not allowed to have a list of the titles during the "book battles". After two rounds, teams will start to be eliminated based on scores until we have one winning team.

Some additional details:

• The Audubon library has four copies of each book available for team members to check out.
• Teams decide which members read which books. No one student is required to read all twelve books.
• The winning team from Audubon may compete with a winning team from another LWSD elementary school (via TEAMS).
• Students will be recognized at the end of the school year with a participation certificate.

Dear Audubon Parents,

You’re invited to celebrate a special occasion in your child's life while supporting the Audubon library! We are excited to introduce the Celebration Book Club. This optional program allows you to make a monetary donation to help maintain and update our school’s library collection. Please note that we are not accepting book donations for this program.

Your donations will be used to purchase new books that align with the interests and needs of our library users. By joining the Celebration Book Club, your child will choose a book from a selection of pre-purchased new titles to be donated to our library in their honor. The selection will take place during a month between October and May, and a special label will be placed inside the book recognizing your child’s celebration. Your child will be the first to check out the new book, which will then become part of our library collection for all to enjoy!

Please note: if you want to celebrate your child’s August-September birthday, then choose October for month your child selects a new book. If your child’s birthday is between June-July, then choose May as your child’s book selection month (the book label will reflect the correct b-day month).

The membership fee is $20. Please provide cash (exact amount) or a check made out to Audubon Elementary School, noting “Celebration Book Club” in the memo. Complete the form on the back of this letter for each child participating. If you have multiple children, one check for the total amount is acceptable. 

Return the form(s) along with your payment in an envelope addressed to: Audubon Celebration Book Club. Early submission is appreciated to facilitate processing, as it takes time to order, catalog, and label new books. The deadline for submissions is the end of April.
