Loan Periods:

• Kindergarten - 2 books for 1 week (check out begins in October)
• 1^st Grade - 2 books for 1 week
• 2^nd Grade - 2 books for 1 week
• 3^rd Grade - 3 books for 2 weeks
• 4^th Grade - 4 books for 2 weeks
• 5^th Grade - 5 books for 2 weeks

Books should be returned before or on the student's assigned library day (see library schedule tab). Please reinforce the importance of responsible book return. 

If a student needs more time to finish reading a book, he/she may ask to renew the book. 

Book Fines:

Students are not fined for late books, but they are responsible for lost or damaged library books. Students will be fined the replacement cost if a book is lost or damaged.

Mondays: Mueller, Haberly, and Miller

Wednesdays: Veldee, Braswell, Sullivan, and Bullock
Thursdays: Celeste, Kitayama, Morando, LaMarre

K-5 Research and Homework Help
Information on how to cite resources, links to research databases, library catalogs, and lists of good books to read.

Research Databases
District provided databases appropriate for K-5. Contact your child's classroom teacher for database username and password information to gain access from home. While at school using a computer connected to our network, your child has automatic access. 

Battle of the Books is an optional reading challenge open to 4th and 5th graders. Students are responsible for forming teams, reading the books, and participating in the "Book Battles." Team registration will take place in the fall and teams may have between 2-4 members. There are 12 books each team needs to read and team members may choose to divide the book titles amongst each other.

The teams "battle" by answering questions about the 12 books. All questions require the title of a book as the answer. Teams are not allowed to have a list of the titles during the "book battles". After two rounds, teams will start to be eliminated based on scores until we have one winning team.

Some additional details:

• The Audubon library has four copies of each book available for team members to check out.
• Teams decide which members read which books. No one student is required to read all twelve books.
• The winning team from Audubon may compete with a winning team from another LWSD elementary school (via TEAMS).
• Students will be recognized at the end of the school year with a participation certificate.

Dear Audubon Parents,

Audubon Elementary has a tradition of celebrating students’ birthdays with books through our “Audubon Birthday Book Club”. This birthday book club is an optional money donation program for helping to keep our school’s library collection current. Sorry, we are not accepting book donations for this program. Money donations are used to purchase new books for our library. It is our library’s goal to have our library filled with books that meet the information needs and interests of our library users. Keeping a library collection current is a big financial commitment, so this is a fun and special way you can help!

When you sign-up and pay for your child(ren) to join our birthday book club, your child gets to choose a new book to be donated to our school library in his/her honor. Your child will choose a new book during his/her birthday month from a selection of new books prepared by the library staff. A special label will be placed inside the book, dedicating the book in honor of your child’s birthday. Your child will get to be the first patron to check out the new book. When your child returns the book, it will become a part of our library collection for all to enjoy!

If your child’s birthday was in August or September, he/she will choose a book by the end of October. If your child’s birthday is in June or July, your child will choose a book during the month of May, so he/she has time to enjoy the book and return it to our library before the school year ends.

The membership fee to join is $15. Please send cash (exact amount) or make a check payable to Audubon Elementary School and write “Birthday Book Club” in the memo section on your check. Fill out the “Audubon Birthday Book Club” form with your child’s information. If you have more than one child, please fill out one form per child. If you have two children joining our birthday book club, you may write one check for $30 instead of two separate $15 checks. Return the form(s) and put check/cash in an envelope addressed to: Audubon Birthday Book Club. Please submit your form as early as possible so processing these requests can begin, even if your child’s birthday isn’t until the spring. It takes a lot of time to order, catalog, and create labels for new books. Deadline for submitting form is the end of April.
